TrackTalk1: Media and Film Studies

HERE are the slides from today. Wala lang, I just wanted to share coz kinareer ko the slides.

I hope you enjoyed today's forum. Feel free to ask any questions here about the track (or even questions to particular speakers that I can forward to them). If you also have any suggestions about how to conduct future TrackTalks, go ahead, I'd love to hear them. I must apologize that we ran out of time for Q&A today. Time flies when you're having fun! :)

Thanks again for being such a winner class! See you Thursday for TrackTalk Journalism.

Hi friends! I think I am enjoying the track talks. I know the other com blocks have no idea on how we're having soooo much fun in our Com100 class. I don't think they have track talks as well - I dunno - I think I am resorting to sweeping a generalization. But anyway, I enjoyed listening to the stories and how the speakers pulled our legs to go to media studies.

I don't think we could have it any other way. Maybe time isn't just enough for this.

And you know what? I was thinking, maybe as a synthesis or conclusion for our Seminar Class, our block, A3, can produce/run/come up/direct a Track Talk for all the other com blocks as our, like, semestral class project. So we can have the taste of how it is to invite speakers, do some logistics, arrange like a talk show for this and actually run a showo. I don't know. My creative mind just told me to think about this. And yes, I know ACOMM will hold this for us, but what I am after is the experience of running something like this for other co-majors in school. After all, this is what we'll be dealing in the outside world.

What do you think?

hmm as much as i enjoyed the track talk today it got me kind of confused and sad too...

hmm enjoyment first: it's really cool on how com will get you places and manages to show other courses that we're not just aspiring tv people who know hardly know anything. we prove to them how devoted we are to the media and what is behind all the advertising and everything. mucho awesome talk :)

now what made me sort of sad: now i really don't know if com is really for me! :( as in i still don't know what i want to be and WHY i'm in com. all the speakers today were great at what they were doing and everything; their purpose and duties in media studies truly made me wonder as to what my calling is as well.

hmm i dunno really.. i guess i just have to keep my options open and everything? O_O

EJ, I love your enthusiasm. Let's talk about this further in our seminar this coming Tuesday.

Melo, don't fret! You have time to figure things out. Before you decide on shifting courses or choosing a track or what career you want, think about what you enjoy doing now, what fields you want to try out, and what skills you want to develop.

Again, as your 'homeroom teacher', you guys should know that I'm available for consultation (academic, career, personal, etc). :)

The track talks were oodles of fun. But track talks of our own, EJ? Hm...sounds promising. Hopefully, we're more certain about what track we're taking by the end of the semester.

I'm more concerned about electives. There's horror films but no science fiction? :( Come on! I really wanted to do a paper on the mix of futuristic elements and World War 2 France in The Killing Game. :p

And grades...I really hope that D in Math or that D in Zoo Lab isn't a giant mark on my forehead that says "Don't hire her!" That was my primary concern. Dang grades.

Btw, I also spoke with a senior who told me Marketing is a great elective if you're on the ad track. I guess I'll see if there's any truth to that during the talks for ad. :)
