super late post! haha
But I just wanted to say how I really like this lecture. The idea of internet as voice is something that all of us should really pay attention to.
The internet has always been considered as a powerful tool, but never in the sense that it gives voice to those who are voiceless. It allows the marginalized sectors of society to voice out their stand, their concerns. And with many people joining together through the internet, the dominant elite can no longer ignore them.
Hence, I think this lecture is an eye-opener to the true power of the media, especially the internet.
Rachelle, I'd also add that while the Internet can enable, it can also disable! While the marginal can speak, who indeed listens?
I'm glad you enjoyed this lecture. It was one of the funnest to prepare because there are so many interesting examples.
